My baby is going to college!

A couple of weeks ago Headless Girl FINALLY got the letter she has been waiting for. She applied for Early Decision to Azusa Pacific University and after many weeks of waiting she has been accepted. It is a very competitive private school in California, and the only school that she wants to go to. The only one that she wanted to apply to. This is, in a way, the end of a long journey....

As a young child HG always wanted to be a doctor. It is,maybe, the only thing that she has ever wanted to do. Her dad and I didn't really know that she was serious until she was about 12. That summer at church camp they were helping the kids 'learn' how to hear the voice of God. She has always heard God in a very real and clear way. She asked Him what she was going to do with her life and he told her that she would be a medical missionary. She was not surprised. Then she asked where He was going to send her. The reply-Sudan. (Side note- as her parents we flipped a little. But we also know that God has an incredible calling for her life.) So when she decided on a place to fill both pre-med and theology her obvious choice was APU. (It is a great school and a great fit for my girl in so many ways.)

I am so thrilled for HG. She is an awesome daughter. She is not a typical teenager-she doesn't lie, doesn't sneak around. She is, and has always been, God's child first, then ours. There are many exciting things for her this year-graduation, starting the next chapter in her life, getting out on her own. I am so proud of her accomplishments. I am so proud of the young woman that she is and is becoming. I'm proud to be her mother. I learn (too frequently) from her example. And I love her so, so, so much.

You go, Girl!!

Wow, congrats! We live very close to APU, and I hope one of my kids goes there, though they may not be college-bound. At least they could live at home...
