Norman Rockwell, it wasn't

This just about sums up the day for us. If you can't tell, that is the remains of a very large black plastic trash bin. Complete with kitchen trash. Charred wood pile. Blue recycle bin with large hole in the side.

The trash company is going to get a kick out of this when I call. I thoroughly plan on being the laughing stock of the office for the day. Do they get many calls like this?

Big puffy hearts and bright yellow stars for the reader who can tell me just how this happened!

Updated- Thanks for commenting...I loved Lysa's answers and kinda wished that one of them were the truth (a much better story!). But Keetha is correct-left over ashes that weren't out. Thank God my husband found it before it got to the garage!!

I'll take a guess - - - someone dumped ashes in there that you THOUGHT were all cold, but alas and alack, something was still BURNING!!!

I found you through BooMama's blog. I'm the Keetha from Indiana, not to be cornfused with the one from Kudzu Kuntry

Oh dear--- I've never seen anything quite like this! Hmmm--- my best guesses-
1. The fruit cake spontaneously combusted
2. Santa's sleigh got too close when it rocketed away from your house (you know those reindeer need a little help from rocket fuel to make it all the way around the world in one night
3. One of your neighbors slipped outside to escape all the family in town and thought smoking a cigar would be relaxing. But she freaked when she heard her husband calling her and dumped the evidence of her mischief in your garbage can.
Hmmmm? Not bad hunh???
Smiles!
I enjoyed reading through your blog.

You are not alone! My grandparents have owned a garbage company for over 30 years now. We've had totes burn up from ashes to fireworks. Thank God He protected you all. :)
