Ten a Day

While bemoaning the lack of community around the blogosphere lately, Adam and Karen decided to make a THING this week. Call it an experiment if you want. I call it 'Old School'.  Blogging as it used to be. We read. We commented. We followed links when someone said something that resonated, be it funny, or touching, or asshatery; we trailed around the internet reading REAL stories, from REAL people, about REAL LIVES. Before we were all "Brands," we were people.

Let's get back to that, shall we?

And if you follow my friend Busy Mom on Twitter, you know that she and a bunch of others were talking about this on Saturday night, so I know that it's not just a few of us that are missing the old blogging. It's a lot of people, across a lot of genres. Even Gwen Bell is talking about how blogging has changed.

So, will you take the challenge?

I'm going to do this. If I only get to read ten posts a day but comment on all of them I will do it. Can you only read and comment on 3? OK then, do it. No judgement. The point is to really read and interact like we all did before Twitter and Facebook diluted our conversations over so many platforms that we just couldn't hear, or BE HEARD over all of the noise anymore.

I'm in. Are you?

UPDATED: I'll also try to respond to the comments in the comments, at least for today, since this seems to be a conversation. LOVE IT!!!

See, the reason I don't comment on things I read is because a good portion of the time, I'll wonder if the comment is really necessary. Does this person really care about what a random browser thinks?? Usually, I don't think so. Pessimistic, perhaps, but +shrug+

Thank you both for your comments...

@Silly Mistress-I understand, and I've certainly felt that way before. Please know that EVERY comment here is read and cherished. Sometimes just knowing that I said something that you agree with means more than you'll ever know. I second guess my own comments elsewhere, especially when there are dozens of comments.

I'm committed to at least say "Hey I get that" when I do, in fact, get what the author is saying. It takes 2 seconds and adds value that we've been missing while 'building our brand' and 'increasing our influence', whatever that means.

I'm another blogger who LOVES and READS all comments. And, who goes around cyber space freely leaving comments here and there - - - -

Just 'cause THAT'S THE WAY I ROLL!!!

I'm a non FB, non Twitter-er and after a long blog break was SHOCKED at the way it had all changed in my absence. this post confirms my suspicions. but i still don't want to fb or tweet. i am a 'follow up in comments' type though.

@Keetha-That's one of the things that I love MOST about you!

@HolyMama It's funny that you mention being away. I hardly noticed the change as it was happening, but now as I look back I can see it. I'm committing to change. It will totally cut down on my Facebook time!

I'm in. Where do I start?

@Erica-I know! It has actually been really easy and I think that I've hit more than 10 blogs. Just a quick comment on the post is all that's needed. There was a time that some blogging 'experts' advised against it but I'm now on board with any little "Atta girl" comment. Viva la Blog!

I like that you put the carpet down on the concrete. Did you know that concrete sweats - and thus an extra piece of something needs to go between the two?

If you don't put the extra piece or spray or whatever it is, you may develop mold.

I confess, I haven't commented on blogs in ages. I haven't clicked around in a long time either. I've settled into a rut, a comfort zone where I read a few people -- mostly in my feed reader -- and that's that.

I'm going to take this challenge and see if I like getting back in the game.... we'll see. I feel disconnected from the blogosphere for the most part, honestly. But that is nothing new. I haven't liked the way most of it has been going for a few years now.

I'm with Diana. Even when I leave a comment on a "stranger's" blog, I feel disheartened when he or she doesn't respond and, especially, when he or she doesn't visit my blog out of courtesy in the old days. Maybe Adam and Karen can make a list of the participant blogs in Ten A Day, so we can do a round robin of sorts. You suggest it. They don't know me from a can of paint.

Argh. Typo. "...like in the old days..." it should have read.

I didn't know there was another way! I do this 80 times a day and it's the only way I have ever blogged.

I love reading but somedays I'll read, get to the end click comment and put in a load of dishes, a load of laundry and then come back and forget what I was going to add. LOL I love getting comments too. I like having conversations about the article blogged.
