Has a recipe ever been so obvious that you didn't try it?
Here's the deal: I make the same spaghetti sauce that my mom did. Loved it then, love it now. It is the recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook-you know, the red and white checked one? (Side note: if you don't have one put it on your birthday list or Christmas list. Totally worth it.) I've made this a hundred times if I've made it once, and very rarely do I vary the recipe.
Today I noticed that there was a variation listed underneath. Spaghetti with meatballs. Go figure.
HD has been asking for it for months and since I had all most of the ingredients on hand I decided to surprise him.
Yummy! Everyone loved it, well, except for the picky one who shall remain unnamed. He had plain noodles. Killjoy.
And the meatballs were really easy, if a little time consuming. I may not do it for a regular weekday meal but these were perfect for a day when you have a little more time to spend.
Sauce recipe here. Ok, it's super, super close to mine. Not exact. I couldn't find the meatballs on line. Go figure. Let me know if you want it and I'll write it out, K? Enjoy!

Very similar to my spaghetti sauce, only I don't do the celery or sugar in mine.
I LOVE spaghetti.
I rarely do meatballs either - - -never want to take the time.
Not only do I know the red and white checker cookbook, I have one....actually I have two! The current version, that I usually cook from, and a vintage version that my mom cooked from when she was first married to my dad. I should scan in some pictures and blog about the differences in recipes....it's actually pretty remarkable...thanks for the idea!
BTW...I have grown to love speghetti and meatballs in a deep way....The Boyfriend has a "secret" sauce and every few months he makes dinner for me with my girls. It has become a very special bonding experience for them :)
Sounds tasty.. I just might have to try it.
