One Thousand

For months I knew it was coming. Busy with roof leaks and bathroom remodels I chose to ignore it? Or maybe I was just busy and it seemed so far off.

Time has a way of creeping up on you. One day you're eyeball deep in diapers and midnight feedings, and the next you wake up with a teenager. It happens; we all know it, and yet we're still blindsided when it happens.

A few weeks ago one of my favorite bloggers, GoonSquad Sarah, wrote a post of what she had found in her drafts folder. Snippets of life that she no longer remembered the reference or punchline, some years old. I decided to check out my own drafts folder to see what there was to see.

And that's when it hit me. I was just a few short posts from 1,000. Literally, 4 posts from that milestone. So what did I do?

Wrote 3 posts and disappeared for a couple three weeks. Of course.

But, in true blogger fashion I've been thinking a lot about what I wanted to say to mark this momentous occasion. And, what did I come up with? This. Not much, but I am who I am, and I write what I write, and apparently you either like it or you're getting really good at humoring me, because there are more than just a few of you that keep coming back for more, regardless of the drivel I post here. And for that I am truly thankful.

Thankful for the good friends that I have made through this little corner of the internet that I call Headless. For all of you: Carmen, Liz, Jenn, Elizabeth, Melisa, Debby, Mary, Momo, Kyooty, Issa, Jill, Sue, Christina, Mir, Jenny, Britt, Shannon, Diana, Jennifer, Shannan, Stephanie, Anna, Stimey, Suebob, Sarah, Laurie, Stacey, Kizz, Kim, Keetha, Dory, Kim, and many many more, I'd love to be able to have you over for a girl's night, complete with your favorite cocktail and Pinterest hors d'ourve. For those of you that still stop by but rarely (or never,) comment, I'm thankful for you too. Your little footprints are in my stats and it's fun to know that someone out there is enjoying what I do.

I'm thankful, too, for what blogging is. It's certainly different from what it was, but it's still us sharing who we are, sharing our struggles and our hopes and dreams, hoping to get a nodding head with something we write or an Atta Girl when we achieve our goals. I don't think that part will change no matter how many Facebooks, Twitters, or Pinterests show up in the internet landscape.

One of the surprise things that blogging has given me is access. Access to friends, for sure. Access to information that has opened my eyes more than I ever thought possible. Access to people that I never thought I could 'know'. For instance, I have more authors in my reader than I ever thought possible. Me? Know an author? Pshaw. I'm not (or wasn't) cool enough for that. And most of them I have actually met. See? Very cool. I also feel like I have access to some of the best humorists that some of you may never meet or see on a stage or read their book, but OH! the hours I've laughed with the friends that I've made through this little corner of the internet.

I'm humbled by your generosity and overwhelmed with gratitude for what you, the people of the blogosphere, have given me. There isn't a price tag that could cover it.

Congratulations! And I love this post. It may seem like "not much" to you, but I think it beautifully conveys what blogging is (or was?) all about: sharing and friendship.

Wow. I love your insight. Access, to friends, to people, to thoughts, to words. Exactly.

And this? THIS is why I love blogging. That said, I'm pretty sure I'm well over the 1,000 post mark. BUT I refused to look to see when I hit those milestones because I feel like then I put too much pressure on myself to make it "special" and... eh, that's just too much effort ;)

For the past three years we've had dinner here while you were on vacation. You live in the state that I used to live in. It's insane if you think about it. Yet...it is also completely amazing too.

Anyway. I love you. That is all.
