Good Golly, Miss Dolly!

This week for American Idol they had Dolly Parton as the mentor. I love me some Dolly but I'm unsure of how these kids will do. Go for it, top 9!

Brooke- 'Jolene' Good! I really liked the arrangement and except for a few off notes I thought she sounded great!

David- I missed part of his performance (and Dolly's intro) but it was pretty good. Not his best, but pretty good. He is good at making songs new and fresh.

Ramiele- Ugh. Go already!

Jason-of-the-Dreads- I love him!! And you can't sing that great song about Jesus if you don't love Jesus. The song suited him. Have I mentioned that I LOVE HIM!!?!!

Carly- WEAR SOMETHING THAT COVERS YOUR TATTOO FOR ONCE. And I really hated this song by her-the arrangement, the way she sang it, everything.

Archie- The judges liked it, but I didn't get a teenager from California singing a song about being poor, from East Tennessee and running from creditors. Didn't get it at all.

Kristy Lee-Didn't get her either. She has the weirdest facial expressions when she sings. Probably not the worst of the night, though.

Syesha-I liked her a lot tonight. She didn't try to be Whitney. (side note...Why do kids try to do that? The kiss of death on this show is trying to be Whitney. No one can, no one will, so just don't try it, ok?) I liked that she put some power to it, but not the whole song.

Michael- An ascot? Really? That's weird. Anyway, I did like the song-the bluesy vibe worked well. Glad the show ended up on him, leaves a 'good taste in my mouth' so-to-speak.

Faves of the night- Jason and Michael.

Bye Bye to- Ramiele or Kristy. I would say Ramiele.

Well, what do you think? Did I get it right? Am I way off base? Let me know, then go see what other bloggers think!

Thanks BooMama for hosting!

FYI. David Archuleta is from Murray, Utah not Cali. I lived in SLC forever and now live is SoCal. We do have smoky mountains in UT.

We actually watched last night! So here's my take:

Brooke- Great googly moogly, this girl is starting to bug me something fierce. I thought the performance was flat.

David- It was good. Not a standout, but good. He can coast for a few weeks.

Ramiele- You said "Ugh. Go already!" I say - Amen.

Jason-of-the-Dreads- His vocals are so...airy. He did okay, but his vocals...there's not a lot there. He's got a niche, though.

Carly- What's wrong with the tattoo? Alice & I agreed that Simon was right, though, whoever's doing her wardrobe's not doing her any favours. And I really liked her performance. :)

Archie- Josh Archuleta? David Groban? Yep.

Kristy Lee- Also gotta go. GOT-TA.

Syesha- I really liked her, too. As I was telling Alice, I've only heard Dolly sing it a few times, and when Whitney did it, I did all I could to avoid it, so I know the song, but I'm not married to any one person's version. I thought Syesha did *great*. But yes, to tackle a song that's *so* associated with a particular artist...it's tough.

Michael- Out of the park. I *loved* it, as Simon would say. LOVED it. First time in a while I thought he's nailed it.

Stacey-I might be wrong, but I heard DA has been living in socal for the last few years trying to get a career going...My only point was poverty is probably not on his radar.

Thank you so much for your input on fear. I really appreciate it!
As for the speaking thing - you go girl!!! I've been where you are and know that it will be the greatest blessing ever to say "yes" to God. He is faithful and will not leave you! Let me know if you need any help getting things started.

Ramiele sounded great on her sing-off Weds. night. Dolly...? Not so much.

Oh, and I figured out what Jason Dreads should do - Sing kid songs! Like Dan Zanes. But I was remembering him singing "Travellin', travellin'..." and it just reminded me of a kid song singer.
