Headless Dad Doesn't Get It

HD has never gotten the whole blogging thing. He indulges me, yes, and nor does he have a cow when the bathrooms haven't been cleaned in, um, weeks.

He readily admits that email is a "necessary evil," for work alone.

This evening I decided to share one of the Community Keynote posts with him. It was one by one of the men that had particularly touched me during the reading. HD isn't a big reader, so I even offered to play the video for him. He chose to read it.

O-kaaayyy.

I was hoping that this particular post would resonate with him. I was hoping for the lightbulb to go off. The recognition of "Wow! I get it now!"

Yeah, not so much.

Blogging has become such a huge part of my life; the people, all of you, that 'live' in my computer, are part of my daily thoughts and actions. I wish that he would 'get it.'

He scoffs when I say that you are my friends. He doesn't understand that my heart breaks when you get ill, or you had a bad day. Or worse. He wants to know if the friends I talk about are 'real' friends, or if you live somewhere else, connected only by the interwebs.

Only you're not connected to me only by the interwebs. We're connected by fingers, and flesh, and ((hugs)). We're connected by daily or weekly posts that make us laugh, or cry, or nod our heads in agreement. We give and take advice. We connect through common experiences and shared tears; through recognition.

I love the friends that I've found here. I blog for the community that I have found. I blog for me; for my (free!) therapy. I blog for connection. I blog to expand my heart.

I wish that he could get that.

I think it's hard for our "real life" friends to grasp the idea of "on-line" friends if they've never experienced the closeness.

I totally get it!

i am so with you here. I am so tired of the sarcastic comments my husband makes about my blogging/web life. I was feeling really down a few month back as a new stay at home mom and would cry to him about how lonely I felt, how I never got to see my friends, etc. He was very supportive of my finding the time to get out with my "real life" friends more but ever since starting my blog and finding the time to read and comment on other blogs, I've felt a renewed sense of friendship and connection with people. If he doesn't get it, so be it... I'm happy now and that's what counts! And it makes me smile to know I'm not alone in this feeling!
Great post!

You are right, of course, and he is wrong. (Hehehehehe)

I actually feel pity for the nonbloggers who haven't a CLUE what they are missing. But they CHOOSE their own clueless state, and since there are so many of us who DO "get it" I'm happy.

You nailed the whole blogging thing in this post, BTW.

Oh - - - and who's smarter, those of us who blog or those of THEM who kiss slimy fish lips?

I think THAT choice is a no-brainer!!!! Hehehehehehehe

Hey, I'm in Mammoth and we have a signal on Marks computer. I am so sorry that HD doesn't get it. I shared with Mark a few weeks ago that I was feeling really bad that I spend hours, like no less then 6 each day. He thought that it was great. He said it's not like I am playing games all day which is what I did before blogging. He likes the fact that I have this special connections with so many women. It's almost like a job for me especially with my For Your Tears blog. That is why I'm on today. I'm just checking emails to see if I had any requests. Talk with you later.

Yeah, most people who don't blog just don't 'get it'; and my husband is one of them too.
