Why #1

Why can I NOT keep my kitchen clean? Yes, I realize that it gets used at least 3 times a day. Holy cow, this room is a disaster area. Crumbs everywhere, a perpetual sink of clean dishes, not to mention the parade of dirty ones that fill the other side of the sink and trail off to the right.

To remedy this I have: started making the boys empty the dishwasher more regularly, begun to teach them where the handwashed stuff goes. Next: try to sweep daily, do better at throwing things away so I don't have as many piles on my counter. (I am a serial pile-maker.)

What do you to to keep the kitchen under control? I need a serious intervention!

I echo this awful plight....hang in there Headless mom....these are the reasons we are all "headless" and why we need each other and blogs like this to remind each other that we are not alone in these plights!!

No solutions as I too am a serial piler and have mtns o'crumbs on my floors/counters at any given time....but here's my attempt at an answer to your why: to comfort others who don't have it together (like myself) by showing no one's in it alone :)

I move my piles out and hide them in my office :) I am always putting the washed dishes away even when they were not mine to being with. I love an empty sink!

Debby- I'm just the opposite! I don't mind washing but I hatehatehate putting them away.

Goes for laundry too!

I've never noticed the mess in my kitchen. Then again, I use only candles for light and wear dark sunglasses when I have to walk through that particular room.

Sounds like my kitchen! ;)

Seriously, I want an app for my phone that shows me how to keep my house pulled together.

I shouldn't even respond because mine is invariably messy, too. BUT I do have one cleaning technique that seems to make my life easier so I'll share. I like to call it the Dyson method. In fact, it's not just for the kitchen; it's for everywhere. Every crumb, pile of dirt and pet fur tumble weed leaves my house in the same manner: the dyson. Regardless of where it lived, I suck that shit up. Yes, I vacuum my counter tops. And the dining room table. And the cobwebs in the corners and the cat fur off the windowsills. Vacuums are not just for floors.

Martha would have a stroke if she ever had to set foot in my home, but it works for me. I pick up whatever needs picked up, vacuum everything and wipe down what needs to be wiped down. Done.

I love my Dyson.

Ummmm. Yeah.

Ok, so the wee one are in charge of their dishes and emptying the dishwasher if they're home when it needs to be done. And they are in charge of cleaning off the table with the ionizer after meals. But the paper piles? Yeah... you aren't alone!
