Mother-In-Law

I'm sitting here watching Parenthood, crying for the first time this season. Most everyone that I know has been crying watching Christina go through her cancer diagnosis but what got me? The scene with her mother-in-law.

I don't have a mother-in-law. My husband's mother passed away of melanoma when he was 19, on Christmas day. There was a woman that was married to my father-in-law, but unfortunately when he passed away, she disappeared. (Unfortunately for my boys. She was the only grandmother that they knew on that side of the family, so, when he passed they also lost a grandmother too. There's more to the story but that's the sad nutshell version.)

I would have loved to have met her. I know that she fiercely loved her children. I know that she was a sports mom, just like me. I often wonder what she would tell me about HD as a child. How did he get to be such a picky eater? Was he always going as a kid, like he does now? (Seriously, the man goes 100 miles an hour until he doesn't, and then he's dead asleep.)

In the show, Camille brings a sweater to Kristina on the morning of her first chemo treatment. Camille tells her that she was glad that she was wrong in thinking that Kristina wasn't right for her son Adam, and that she hopes that she knows that she's there for her.

I would hope that my mother-in--law would have felt the same way about me.

Oh my gosh, I love Parenthood. Since Eli's come home it's the only show on the DVR I've managed to steal time to watch. Can't wait to see this episode.

I know HD's mom would've loved you. It sounds like the two of you would've had a lot in common!

So sorry that you are missing out on a MIL, your husband on his mother and your children missing a grandma. I bawled like a freaking baby during that episode.

((HUGS)) The show was so good. My children never knew my mother and my mother in law has always lived in Texas so our children really don't have a close relationship with a grandmother. I also only know my MIL from a distance. I think that is why I wish my children would have babies, I want to have time for a meaningful relationship with them!!!

That scene ripped me to pieces. Love that show. His mom would have thought you were awesome. Definitely!
