$3.85

Are you kidding me? That is how much, per gallon, that I paid for gas yesterday afternoon. That makes a WHOPPING $66.90 to fill the tank of my minivan. When I got my van in 2000 it cost around $35 to fill it. Gas has almost doubled in price in 8 years. The price of gas, coupled with record oil company profits has me fuming.

So! In the spirit of frugality I'm going to have a little informal survey today. When something rises in price- like gas- Where and How do you cut your spending to make up the difference?

I just try to drive more frugally, batching my trips.

It's the profits that bother me, too, but on some level, that's our economy. Gas isn't a "right".

What makes me laugh is people expecting someone to do something about it. It's the price of gas, dude. What we can do about it is stop using it, as in, transfer to oils or other means of energy.

Maybe the gubmint will look more closely at hemp as a renewable energy source now?

Nah. That'd make sense. Like the nuclear discussion from a while back.

Ha ha, Dad.

Don't get me wrong, profits are cool, but the compensation packages for the executives and the profits seem to be out of whack. I'm not going all socialist on anyone but it doesn't seem right-it seems that there should be a better balance is all.

Headless - ya think things are out of whack? There was a time when CEOs made only ten or twenty times more than the lowest worker on the org chart. Now it's multiple hundreds.

It's gonna get more and more interesting. It's nice to have a good job at the moment.

STB-unfortunately I may have to get a job if the inflation doesn't level off soon.

No joke.

@Headless Mom - Nope...no joke here, either. It's like the title of that Cheech & Chong movie: "Things Are Tough All Over".

:)

It is tough. I am trying to cut back on everything that isn't a fixed cost. I don't like it. I want my money back.

I don't know where I cut - - - but I DO KNOW I'm mad about the Quartery PROFIT REPORTS of the oil companies.

Keetha Broyles said...

Uh, yah - - - and the quarterLy profit reports too.

Our gas is $3.94 at the *cheapest* place in town! I've stopped driving, pretty much. We are lucky to live where the school, library, rec center, park, Trader Joes! is within walking distance. My last tank of gas lasted about 2 1/2 months. My husband needs to commute, and we do use my van on the weekends and in bad weather.

the prices are gross.
