On the first week back to school I've reflected on what works for me regarding being organized for school. I've learned that I need to do a few things to have a smooth first week, like:
- Menu plan and grocery shop for all dinners through at least Thursday. This makes afternoons go sooooo much easier. With all of the forms, new homework methods, etc. having to think about dinner is the last thing I want to do.
- Get up EARLY. I am now getting up at 6am to have my coffee then start breakfast, lunches, etc. before I get the kids up at 6:30.
- Try not to plan too much. (Yeah, right.) If I don't have other plans then I can focus on the kids, random cleaning up projects that haven't been done, and sometimes a nap. (Getting up early usually kills me-especially after the Olympics!) I have done this so far this year and I feel great-I have not put any outside stress on myself and it shows.
- Start the new routine THE FIRST DAY. Sounds easy, right? In the past I would say things like "Oh I'll start exercising later-I deserve a day off." WRONG. Get going on whatever routine you want to have so it will all feel like one big transition, rather than drawing it out. (On this note, I have been walking the kids to school and plan on keeping it up every day. I pick them up because of the heat at 2:30.)

Great organization! I also like to menu plan and get up early before the children do. I need to get into the exercising part though.
Thank you for sharing your great organizational skills! I pray you are able to perservere and continue for the next nine months. I'm not a mother (yet) and I can only imagine how many days you want to not exercise because it's easier to relax.
Getting up before my boys is key. Once they are up it's all about them.
Amen on gettting up before the kids. I have started doing it the past six months and it is the best thing....I have time to gather myself, some quiet time and then it's on, but I'm a lot happier.
