My first-born boy is entering Junior High. I'm having to pinch myself because it doesn't seem real.
It was forever ago that we sent HG off to Junior High... or, you know, 9 years. Details.
It's a new era for our family as well... the boys will not be at school together again for another 4 years! While I think that will be a little bit of an adjustment (more for me than them!), I think it will give them both a great chance to blossom on their own.
Tomorrow is "Glimpse", or a day-long orientation. I know that he's not nervous. HB #1 takes this kind of change quite well. He's been to camp, he's been away from us, and is quite confident in new situations. I think that it's Mom that is holding her breath a little.
I just want it to go well for him! Is there a formula for that? A potion?
I'll let you know how it goes!

End of an Era, New Beginning

You know, it's funny; C seemed so ready to head off to 7th grade and I was the basket case. By the time the kids finish up with 6th grade, they are ready to move on, however, we as the parents seem to struggle.
I didn't like having to give him the talk of "you will see and hear things that you haven't seen or heard of before" when you are at middle school. Going from elementary to middle school IS a big adjustment; going from innocent to "it's put completely put out there for all to see".
The first day of 7th grade was the hardest for me. I kept thinking (and looking at my watch) wondering if C had made it to his classes, etc.. Once he got home from school, I remember asking him how things went and his reply was, "I only got lost twice" with a big cheesy grin on his face. It was then I knew he'd be okay.
Hope HB#1 has a great glimpse of the new challenges ahead for him in learning and growing!
It is very exciting for him. Sending you a ((HUG)) He is going to do great. Kinda sad that they won't be in the same school anymore.
I love that it's called "Glimpse."
We've had 4 kids in 4 different schools for the last few years, so I totally get it.
Next year, however, my youngest will be riding the bus to the middle school with her big bro and, well, I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled at the prospect of no more drop-off/pick-up lines to deal with.
Unless, one of them (probably my son) is running late...oy!
Good luck :)
