Not much ruffles Headless Dad. He used to get really jacked about politics, but not so much anymore. He never watched much tv either. That is until we he got his huge new flat-screen HDtv. I'm now worried that he may have a heart attack.
Exhibit A:
Seriously. Every time he watches this he says, "I want to grab her hair and slam her head against the wall!" I wouldn't be surprised if his blood pressure went up several points. I mean, it was funny the first few times time he said it, but now that we see it about 89 times an hour I really think it is beating a dead horse. No? I've never thought of him as a violent man, but believe me, I will never, ever, never push an elevator button and stop him from also getting to the buttons.
Would you? I think not.

American Idol-Top 5
I made it, thanks to my DVR. Yea!
So. Top 5. American Classics/Rat Pack era. Should be good. Lemme have it! (Mmmm, Jamie Fox as the mentor. Awesome!)
Kris- The Way You Look Tonight- Ok, my first yummy performance of the season. This guy is SO good, and has the rat pack appeal. Kris is now my front runner-HD and I think that he will win. The cool thing about Kris is that his song tonight could fit on an album with all the other things that he's done, and it would totally work. Bravo, Kris!
Allison-Someone To Watch Over Me- Happy Birthday, Allison! Only 17...She's amazingly gifted and poised for being that young. I know I say it a lot (we all do!), but it is true. She's giving me chills tonight. Understated vocals, but powerful all the same. Nicely done.
Matt- My Funny Valentine- He seems to be off key in the beginning...and it's continuing. So sorry, Matt, but that wasn't even close to the other two tonight so far. Bottom two, for sure.(Is Simon crazy? I'll be interested what he says after he watches the tape back, because, dude, that was painful.)
Danny- Come Rain Or Come Shine- I loved his vocals, but the performance is pretty boring, and seemed forced at the end. But, like Randy said, the vocals were great and this is a singing competition!
Adam- Feeling Good- (Ok, enough with the theatrics. The staircase, the lighting. I, personallly have had enough.) Adam is fine for Broadway, but it's really too much for American Idol. Seriously. I can't handle it any more; I don't think he's good. Blech. My vote to go home.
Ok, another week down. My faves? Kris, Allison, and Danny, with Kris the #1 of the night. The bottom 2 are Matt and Adam. Obviously, if I had my way, Adam would be gone but I think there are too many Adam fans out there, so I'll have to guess that Matt will go.
I think that I may even buy Kris' song for my ipod because it was really the best. Which one would you buy?

A Bit of Bloggy Business...
...that is LOOOONG overdue. Seriously. 30 lashes for me.
- I had a great lunch with Marcy of The Glamorous Life. You know, the one who hosted Proposal 2.0? She's so awesome, we had a great time, and hopefully we can get our boys together this summer for a little beachy fun. Or just leave the kids at home and go have drinks. Whatever. Thank you, THANK YOU! Marcy, for a great lunch, and even better? for being a great blog friend. And if you live in Orange County, add her to your reader because she is working on a summer bash just for us! (And hopefully she'll forgive me for taking so long to do this. I suck.) She may or may not have pictures at said lunch...
- A big thank you also goes to Mir of Woulda Coulda Shoulda for the book The Middle Place, by Kelly Corrigan. She had a funny contest to give her a compliment and I told her that she was "my something shiny." Let me tell you, that is the absolute best book that I have read in a long time. I have already lent it to a friend that is a cancer survivor, and she couldn't put it down, either. I would never have found this book if it hadn't been for Mir, and as soon as it is returned to me I think I'm going to read it again. Because it's that good. Mir, I can't wait to meet you at BlogHer!
- I still have a giveaway open. Have you checked it out yet? Hop on over to save on your dry cleaning bill!
- The Compassion Bloggers made it to India and have already been posting. Go check them out, and take your tissues.
- My friend Shannon of Charming (Driver) is very, very ill. Please go give her some love. Send some prayers. And if you are someone I know and you are able to do more contact me by email and I'll put you in touch with them. Maybe we can band together to help their family.

Tickled
A friend sent me an email earlier today. The content really doesn't matter, what is great is in a reply I got back from her a little while later...
when i sent this email to my uncle he wanted to know "who is Headless Mom"? And why the name Headless Mom? I told him you have 2 small boys & constantly running form here to there with all their sports, this and that. So now when he replies back to me it's Headless Randy. He got a real kick out of the name.Isn't that great? Headless Randy, I wish I knew you so I could include your adventures here, too!

Compassion Bloggers Leave for India
You may have noticed a new widget in my sidebar that directs you to the Compassion International site. Compassion is taking a new group of bloggers to India, tomorrow!, and I have a word for my dear friend Robin of Pensieve.
Robin,
I hope that you don't mind me putting this out here for all to see. The work of our Lord is for all, for all have been chosen.
You are a valuable part of this team. Your gifts are different than the others', but valuable to the team. You were chosen to compliment the others, and them to compliment you.
4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 1 Cor 12:4-6
I also have a single word. Let me know how it pans out, won't you? The word is "Red". It has come to mind, literally, every time that I've thought of you and this trip.
Go with confidence, dear Robin. You are chosen. And remember this:
20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you, what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Heb 13:20-21
With much love,
HM
Now, for the rest of you...Would you consider sponsoring a child through Compassion? They also have ways to give a one-time donation, as well, just click on the image below and you can find all of the ways that you can help a child in poverty feel loved in Jesus.
Follow all of the Compassion Bloggers here on their amazing trip, and be ready to be blown away by God and His amazing provision and grace. I can't wait to hear all about it!

Wednesday Thoughts
A few things that just need to be said:
- People should realize that I can, within a reasonable doubt, figure out who you are when you come here and leave less than glowing comments. Especially on old posts, especially when you search my site for an hour. Just sayin'. (Although this will be lost on the actual perpetrators. I'll just find joy in the fact that my page views jumped yesterday. Ha!)
- Misspellings are killing me lately. I know that I make mistakes, we all do, but they are jumping out at me lately. Especially in titles. Ouch.
- My motivation has up and left. Gone. Buh'bye. That would mean for anything and everything-including getting out of bed in the morning, eating, walking, chores. Yep. All of it.
- The lack of motivation does not however translate into the lack of appetite. What's up with a stomach ache when I eat breakfast? The only thing that doesn't hurt my tummy is Honey Nut Cheerios. Not the greatest choice but it's the only thing that I can eat in the mornings without wanting to hurl. Aren't you glad you asked?
- I am having a non-bloggable situation that I'm really too old for. Seriously. I haven't been a teenager since the 80's and I refuse to revisit it.
- I'm so not ready for 100 degrees yet. I hate that part of summer, which is why I'd gladly live elsewhere. (Don't get me wrong...I love my friends here but yikes it's hot!)
- I'm ready for Headless Girl to be home for the summer, even though she'll be gone for a month in the middle. She gets home in about 2 weeks-Yay!
- Baseball season is fun for parents. Our 'socializing season' if you will.
Oops! I forgot to remind you to go on over and enter my giveaway!

American Idol-I'm Back!
Sorry about the unexplained hiatus last week-we had baseball and I forgot to set the DVR. Hmph. I did see the end of the results show and I'm just not sure how I feel about all of it. On the one hand I have liked Matt, but I also didn't see his performance last week. The fact that he's been in the bottom 2 or 3 more than once (has it been twice?) means that he doesn't have a huge following, and probably can't win anyway. I'm not sure that if I were a judge I would have used my save on him-especially at this point in the competition. Losing two this week is going to be hard...Or really easy depending on how they do, seeing that it's:
Disco Week.
Really? This theme is really hard so I'm either expecting to be surprised or hate them all. So let's get to it.
Lil-I'm Every Woman-Not so great from Lil...I feel bad for her. (Paula said she was sick...bummer.) I think she'll be going home.
Kris-She Works Hard for The Money-Ooh, great vibe! This is really, really amazing. Acoustic? Bongos? Who knew? This ROCKED!!! This is how you do disco week! Exactly what Kara and Simon and Randy said. (I'm going to watch this again and again on the DVR. Really, really good.)
Danny-September-This is really good, but following Kris is getting harder and harder. I love Danny and really think that he is going to get a contract on his own no matter what he does on the show. He's strong and predictable, and never dissapoints.
(Can we get rid of Paula? I'd totally vote for that. I just don't get her anymore.)
Allison-Hot Stuff- I'm not sure anyone else could have pulled it off but this arrangement really works for her. I liked it, and don't agree with the judges really. Well, except for Simon. Smart man to agree with me.
Adam-If I Can't Have You-Toned down so far, which if you read my Idol reviews each week, is good. I tend to think he's over the top-oops. There he goes again. I don't think the arrangement works either. Sorry. I'm no Adam fan, and this was awful if you ask me, and I don't agree with the judges at.all. Blech.
Matt-Staying Alive- OK-listening to this it's pretty good but then I looked up and the "look" is just off. Which Idol stylist is single-handedly trying to bring back the Member's Only jacket? It was not hot in the 80's and it's not hot now. I'm on the fence about this performance. It wasn't awful but it was far from the best.
Anoop-Dim All The Lights-I like him but I figured out what's wrong. He's just not exciting. I don't think he'll make it to the finals.
Best of the night: Kris, by a country mile, followed by Allison and Danny.
Bottom four: All the others. I think that Lil and Matt will probably go home after tonight. What about you?
Check out what everyone else has to say over at BooMama's place!

Review and Giveaway
Some of you may have noticed that I have started a Review and Giveaway site. For my inaugural post I have a great product for you...Head on over to enter!
Stir Fry
Last week I was out of ideas for dinner. Luckily the week before I had grabbed a box of Orange Chicken at Costco (frozen, with it's own sauce packets.) I decided to make the chicken (in the oven,) heat the sauce, make rice and attempt to stir fry vegetables. I'd never made them on my own before (I know!), so off I went to grab some veggies. As you can see from the photo I used:
baby carrots, quartered lengthwise
baby bok choy, halved
water chestnuts, 8 oz. can
baby corn, 14 oz. can
broccoli florets, from one bunch
diced red onion
coarsely chopped celery, about 2 stalks
about 2 tsp. minced garlic
I sauteed all of the above in sesame oil for about 15-20 min., covering periodically to keep the steam in the pan. (I didn't want to use any other sauce because the included orange sauce is very strong, and I was afraid of the flavors not mixing well.)
Verdict? Yum! I will definitely make this again, but in smaller quantities...I've been eating leftovers for days. (Which isn't all together a bad thing, considering that I don't really like sandwiches for lunch. But I digress...) Headless Dad particularly loved the bok choy and the broccoli-they came out crunchy/tender, just like I'd hoped it would. The other thing that was great about this dinner is that the chicken was 'all natural'-no msg, high fructose corn syrup, etc., so I had no qualms about buying it or feeding it to my family. It did have a breading, but it was light in comparason to some that I've tried. I also loved that the whole thing can come together in about the time that it takes to cook the rice in a rice cooker: 20-30 min.
Another weeknight winner!
Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

Name One Thing Prettier
There are blogs for everyone. The green activist, the politico, the pet lover. One of the most fun things about the blogosphere is that you can read and get a glimpse into the lives and loves of people that are very different from yourself.
A few weeks ago I read a post on Happy Healthy Hip Parenting, that I left the following comment:
"Shut up. That is one of the most BRILLIANT posts I've ever read. EVER."So, hearing that, head on over, read their post entitled Beautiful You, and then come back for some follow up.
Back yet? Didn't you love it?
Good. Beauty is certainly one of those 'opinion' subjects, isn't it? For example, I love the mountains. I think that the mountains are beautiful, but saying that I am referring to the mountains of Colorado and similar states that have tree and snow covered mountains. My husband, the famous Headless Dad grew up in Arizona and loves the mountains but his picture of the mountains is certainly different than mine. Picture desert, rock formations and cactus. Not exactly the same are they? Same word even, but a very different picture.
Reading Beautiful You I was challenged to look at things a little differently. Is old inherently not beautiful? No, I don't think so. I can think of many people that have gotten better looking with age. Antique furniture and old buildings can certainly be beautiful. Is youth inherently beautiful? Again, not necessarily. There is youth lost all around us in many ways, and it's tragic, but not beautiful nonetheless.
I've come to an age that I have both freckles AND wrinkles. Do I think that either are beautiful? Not particularly, but I don't hate them either. They are both just a part of me, of who I am on the outside. I watch small freckles emerge across the nose of my son and I smile. Those freckles are certainly beautiful to me-but will they be to him? I wonder if someday he'll hate them? Will he love that he has 'angel kisses' just like his parents, brother, and sister? Will he even notice?
I have found profound beauty in motherhood. In my newborns suckling at my breast. In my toddlers' discoveries. In my daughter blossoming into a woman. Watching them all through my own eyes, as well as my husbands, which makes it infinitely more whole. More lasting. More beautiful.
What would you say is prettier than freckles?

How Mommies Earn Their Diamonds
First you must have one child in the bed with you. This is very important for the husbands' contribution to follow soon.
Second, the child in bed with you should be hogging the bed with his feet firmly pressed into your back, shoving you into the most uncomfortable position possible. Preferably right next to your husband who sleeps very hot and sweaty. Right arm under your head and asleep, optional.
Third, your husband should wake you by saying loudly, "Someone's throwing up!", which should cause the mommy to shoot out of bed. Of course since it is dark, and you have various body parts that have fallen asleep because of the child in your bed, you are not quite sure what is going on or where you are. Not to mention the fact that you have to crawl all over the sleeping child to make it out of the bed in the first place.
Fourth, grab the small trash can and thrust it at the child that is throwing up, attempting to miss stepping in the first wave of vomit, already on the floor.
*Here is where the husband contributes!* Husband can now volunteer to take sleeping child from your bed to his own bed. *Phew* Glad he could help.
Fifth-clean up the throw-up-kid and deposit in your spot in the bed, next to the husband that is already snoring again.
Sixth, clean up. No need to "Eew" here because all other participating parties are already asleep and your breath would be wasted, not to mention the effort it would take to not say something snarky about someone sleeping while the other is cleaning up vomit. From her side of the bed. At 2 am.
Seventh, crawl back in bed and resume beginning position except this time you get to hug the edge of the bed directly over where the extravaganza happened in the first place.
This is entirely true. Somewhere for someone. But may have been slightly exaggerated for comedc effect. Maybe.

Toasting Maddie
Mac and Cheese
A few weeks ago Carmen posted about finding a Macaroni and Cheese recipe that she just couldn't get out of her head. Well, I couldn't either and last Sunday ended up being the perfect day to make it. Headless Girl and her boyfriend gave up meat for Lent and when they would visit for dinner we had to come up with meatless dinners and you can only have salad so much. I didn't make that exact recipe, as you'll see, but it came out really good! (I searched online and read recipes that I already had and combined them with Carmen's.)My Mish-Mash Mac-N-Cheese (or how I made it that night, anyway.)
1 lb. elbow macaroni
1 head cauliflower, chopped into florets (or smaller if your kids will freak out. Once it's all cooked you can't taste the cauliflower at all.)
Cook macaroni to package directions, adding cauliflower during the last 3 minutes. Drain.
1/2-1 cup chopped white or yellow onion
Butter: 2-4 Tablespoons, depending on your taste. I used about 3.
Sautee onions in butter in a large sauce pan until onions are soft, but not browned.
Combine 2 Tbsp. flour and 2 tsp. powdered mustard, add to butter. Stir well until smooth.
Add 5 cups of milk. I used skim and 2%, equal parts. Heat to boiling, stirring often.
Add 5 cups shredded cheese gradually. (I used 1 cup mozzarella, 1 cup Velveeta, and 3 cups of medium cheddar. Mostly 'cuz that 's what I had and wanted to use the left overs. You can use whatever you have on hand, it will still be good. Sharp cheddar or pepper jack is always good.) Melt until smooth.
Add macaroni and cauliflower to cheese mix. Stir well, put in 9x13 pyrex, cover with foil. Bake at 350 until hot and bubbly, about 30-40 min. Remove foil for 5 min., or so at the end of baking.
Yummmmmm.
And the best part? Leftovers!

Pokemon Cards Find a New Home *Updated!
These cards are going to Canada:
Kyooty, I hope your son enjoys them! My HB#1 took a lot of time to pick just.the.right.cards to send- so cute! And I love that my kids are getting into the Cluttercasting spirit.
SJ's son already got his package of Pokemon cards. Go check out his reaction in pictures. So dang adorable I can't stand it! Thanks, SJ, for the pics and the kind words.

The blogosphere is reeling today with the news of Maddie's passing. I hope that Heather and Mike can feel the love that is being sent their way today. Besides donating (see post below,) there is little any of us can do. For my teeny part I'd like to keep a list here of all of the posts that you have put up for Maddie. Someday I know that Mike and Heather will want to see all of the sweet things that have been written about their precious girl. I'll be happy to add yours, just email me, as I have closed comments. (headlessfamily5(at)gmail(dot)com). Or on twitter.
*Updated- I think Meghan and I did these at the same time-her's is a dedicated page and has a Mr. Linky so if you want to add yours there too head on over. I won't duplicate her list though so if you want me to add yours here please let me know. I will continue to add the links that I run across as well.

Sweet Madeline went to heaven last night. We are all heartbroken for Heather and Mike, and the rest of their family.
(Taken from Heather's site.)
There are no words, I know, but please pray. I have been all night.
I met Heather and Mike last year at BlogHer and have followed them ever since. I love you guys and would love to be able to help in other ways if I can. Just know that we all love you so much and will remember Maddie. Even those of us who never had the pleasure of knowing her will remember her because you shared so much of her with us.
May God give you peace that is beyond all understanding, today and going forward through this terrible time.

Birthday Songs
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you! Happy.... Oh! Hi! Sorry. I got a little carried away.
This is perennially one of my favorite weeks-probably because so many of these kids were born in the '80's, which is my kind of music. Ahem. And you can usually tell what kind of artist these kids will become by what song they choose tonight and how they arrange it.
So, on to the performers. Is anyone else kinda freaking out that we're already down to 8?
Danny- Stand By Me-The arrangement was a little weird, but like the judges said, vocally he rocked it. We love Danny around here, but as we were chatting about Danny being the oldest I reminded HD that he's old enough to be his father. Ouch.
Kris- All She Wants To Do Is Dance- He's such a cutie, isn't he? We're not digging the arrangement over here. This is a bad song to begin with, and jazzy just isn't working for us. I love him, though. (Didn't I just say that I love '80's music? Sheesh, I need to make up my mind. Or they need to choose better songs.)
Lil-What's Love Got To Do With It?- What's up with these people changing these songs tonight? Nothing is working well so far tonight. I would love for Lil to have done better, but I think that she really needed to KILL it tonight and she didn't.
Anoop- True Colors- The best he's done in weeks. Seriously. And a better arrangement than anyone else who has been on the stage tonight. I really, really liked this-more than anyone else tonight so far.
Scott- (What's the name of this song? Power ballad! Gah!) He is doing really good! I like the guitar, I like that he is really true to himself every.stinkin'.week. I don't agree with the judges at all-I thought he did really great, (with the exception of a couple of bad notes,) and Scott did what Scott does.
Allison-I Can't Make You Love Me- Perfection. Seriously. The.Best.Of.The.Night. Hands down. How does a 16 year old have that bedroom sexiness in her voice? Yowsa.
Matt-Part-time Lover- (No! Please! I hate this song! Ugh!) I'm going to have to deferr to the judges on this one-I can't get past this awful song. Hmm. They liked it. Well okay then.
Adam- Mad World- Is he going to ruin this song for me? I hope not. (Oh no, he did.) Sorry folks, I'm not on board with Adam. At all. I hated it. All of it. (Sorry Steph, I just can't.) Eew, shivers, creepy.
Hey! Not one wardrobe gaff tonight. The wardrobe people must have gotten the message, huh?
Best of the night-Allison, hands down, (didn't I already say that?). Next few: Danny, Anoop, Kris.
Going home- Lil, or Scott. Although if it were up to me it would be Adam.
What say you BooMama crowd?

A Big Saturday for My Big Boy
Some days are all about one kid. That's ok because other days are all about the other kids. They all get a chance, and they all even out in the end.
Saturday was one of those days for my #1.
He had a track meet on Saturday morning. Each child could only choose 2 events to participate in. He placed second in the 800, and third in the long jump! Go HB!By the afternoon he was suited up for baseball. HB#1 walked twice, and scored once. They lost but had a great time and there were some awesome plays. Go Phillies!
As soon as we got home from the game he had to get ready for his first sleepover birthday party. When we arrived, (a few minutes late because of the game,) the kids were given Nerf guns, army camo jackets and hats, and they were off to battle. Rumor has it the boys only got about 4 hours of sleep. Suppose that has anything to do with the cranky on Sunday afternoon? Noooooo! Of course not! All in all they must have had a great time because he hasn't stopped talking about it yet. Seriously, non-stop.
One of the cool parts of sending one off to torture stay with friends is the snuggling that you get to do with the remaining one. #2 and I had a "date" at Qdoba for dinner, rented "Space Buddies" from our onDemand service, and got to snuggle on the couch 'til Daddy got home from work. I don't suppose there will be many more nights like that in my future, but it sure was nice on Saturday.
So. What did you do this weekend?

My Long Love Affair Comes To An End
I have a busy day ahead. Volunteering at the school, Costco, getting the kids from the school, homework, and 5 hours of baseball.
Oh yeah. And there's the 3 hours of TV that I'll be watching tonight. (Don't laugh.)
The ER finale is tonight.
I cannot tell you how upset I am over this. I am just beside myself. I think Headless Dad is secretly happy that my Thursday love affair will be over.
I have spent the last 15 years of my life with these people. (Longer than with my husband, but who's counting, right?) The fact that they will be gone, except in reruns on some cable network makes my heart hurt.
When I was still single I fell in love with Dr. Greene. He was the perfect mix of tough, tender, and sexy. Funny; many say that my husband resembles him. Coincidence?
I watched the 2 hour pilot in my apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, while reading a Michael Crichton novel during the commercials. (He was one of the creators and executive producers.) (I wrote about that here.)
So, the DVR is set. I will leave the baseball field to come home and get #2 in bed and asleep. When 9:00 rolls around I will close the computer, (no twittering this one,) grab my box of kleenex, and sink into the couch with my glass of wine.
And say good bye to my old friends.
