TV Fail

(Can you tell that I'm mostly writing at night when our tv is on? Yeah, I'm that blogger.)

Most evenings that we end up in front of the television (which isn't many,) my husband has decreed that he is in charge of the remote. As you could see in what we have in the DVR, my tastes are very 'broadcast'. My husband, on the other hand, leans toward cable.

Currently, as I type, we are watching "Dude, You're Screwed" about 4 military/survivalist friends that kidnap each other and drop them in the middle of nowhere. Cool show, until the guy skins a bird that he killed. At the exact moment that I looked up from my computer. Another of his favorites lately is "Moonshiners" and some fishing show where the guy is in the Amazon searching for some giant man-eating fish. Often if I can't find him I'll look in the garage and he'll be watching "Bizarre Foods," which always makes me want to hurl. I even caught him watching "Hoarders" the other night. He can't wait for the Anaconda to swallow that guy. BARF!

No wonder I sit here on my computer all night. Just remind me not to look up at the screen!

What's In Your.... DVR?

You can tell a lot about a person or family by what is in their DVR.

Here's what's in ours:

• The Big Bang Theory 
• Parenthood
• Days of Our Lives
• Grey's Anatomy
• Scorpion
• Local Government- This was when my #2 was getting recognition from our city council last year with his football team for making it to the championship game. HD was really sick that day and stayed home on the couch and I remembered that we have a live feed on our tv of all of the public city council meetings so I had him tape it. Since there are no VCRs any more I don't know what to do with it. I'd love to have a copy for him but don't have a clue on how to go about it. Maybe hook up a laptop? Any tips would help.
• The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon- This comes on at 11:35 here on the west coast and I can't stay up that late so we taped the first one to see how he did. Still haven't watched it.
• Bones

My Long Love Affair Comes To An End

I have a busy day ahead. Volunteering at the school, Costco, getting the kids from the school, homework, and 5 hours of baseball.

Oh yeah. And there's the 3 hours of TV that I'll be watching tonight. (Don't laugh.)

The ER finale is tonight.

I cannot tell you how upset I am over this. I am just beside myself. I think Headless Dad is secretly happy that my Thursday love affair will be over.

I have spent the last 15 years of my life with these people. (Longer than with my husband, but who's counting, right?) The fact that they will be gone, except in reruns on some cable network makes my heart hurt.

When I was still single I fell in love with Dr. Greene. He was the perfect mix of tough, tender, and sexy. Funny; many say that my husband resembles him. Coincidence?

I watched the 2 hour pilot in my apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, while reading a Michael Crichton novel during the commercials. (He was one of the creators and executive producers.) (I wrote about that here.)

So, the DVR is set. I will leave the baseball field to come home and get #2 in bed and asleep. When 9:00 rolls around I will close the computer, (no twittering this one,) grab my box of kleenex, and sink into the couch with my glass of wine.

And say good bye to my old friends.

Just Curious-Christmas Decorations

Quick! What is the ONE Christmas decoration that you must have out every year, or it just isn't Christmas? A Santa figurine? The tree? An angel? The stockings? What is it? Play along with us!

Thanks for your participation last week. Many of us had lots of the same favorite shows. I laughed remembering HR Puffinstuff, The Electric Company (Bernadette rules!), and The Cosby Show (really well done. Not much of that any more, eh?) My fave that wasn't mentioned was Friends (what were you people thinking?) I also loved West Wing (in the beginning,) and Crossing Jordan (before it was canceled. Tragic.) I still watch Days of Our Lives-since the '70's, I might add. I also currently love Grey's Anatomy, and American Idol, (in the spring), Biggest Loser, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (when I can catch it.) But, my favorite show of all time is ER. I am dying a slow death until the end of the season. I don't know what I'm going to do. I remember watching the 2 hour pilot in my apartment in Columbia, South Carolina. I was also reading a novel by Michael Crichton at the same time, during the commercials. I'm so sad that he died before he was able to see the end of such an amazing project.

Just Curious-TV

I thought I would bring back Just Curious for the holidays. Or, well, at least this week. Hey, it's my blog-I make the rules here.

If you're new around these parts, the Just Curious series is where I ask a question. Usually it is a short answer question, sometimes even one word. Audience participation, people. I ask this week, you answer, and I chime in next week. You in?

OK. So our question this week is about you favorite TV shows. What was your favorite show as a kid? As a teen? As a college student? Now? What about your all-time favorite show-the one that you'll watch on TNT, USA or Nick At Night whenever you happen upon it? Answer all or just one. I'm Just Curious!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

'Nuff said. The Final Four have great material to choose from- let's hope that they choose wisely! (I'm not going into too much detail because most likely you have watched the show if you are reading this. Hope you're ok with that.)

DC- Song 1- He didn't change much from the Duran Duran version (go '80's music!) but I liked the rocker feel. Song 2- Still didn't change much, but as Simon said, good enough to get him into next week.

Syesha- Song 1- I didn't think that this was a home run vocal, but is was a great performance. Song 2- She looks great- the dress is amazing! I really liked this- her vocal was full and emotional (witness the tears after she was done...), and I believe that she will go to the top 3 with what she brought tonight.

Jason-of-the-Dreads- Song 1- I think that I may be the only person that liked this version of 'I shot the sheriff'. (It has never been one of my favorite songs.) I would buy it. Song 2- Ooh, the words! I love me some tasty Jason, but I think that based on his performances tonight he'll be going tomorrow.

Archie- Song 1- This was an obvious choice for him- wins the first round. Song 2- OK, y'all know how I feel about Archie in general but I have to say he was the best of the night. This is the only cover of Love Me Tender that I've ever liked. You just don't mess with the King and he did good.

OK, to recap: David, Syesha, and Archie will be the top three. I will still, however, buy Jason's album- I just love his voice; smooth and creamy.

Inspiration: The Top 8

Ok, disclaimer: I feel like cr**. I'm really sick again, probably bronchitis again. I feel grouchy as well. So, I am going to get right to it.

Michael- Didn't get it. Lose the ascot. Once cute, twice weird.

I missed Syesha so no comment. (Caught the blip at the end-it was ok. Did I mention I am sick?)

Jason-of-the-Dreads-Oh my heavens. If I was 24 I would eat him with a spoon. Best of the night. By far!

Kristy Lee- Good tonight. I still think that she should smile when she sings, though. I would guess that she's still in danger.

David Cook- I still like him but agree with Simon-he's been better than tonight.

Carly- Eh. I don't dig her, don't really know why. Still don't like the tattoo staring at me. Call wardrobe! Someone, please! Just one week is all I ask. Didn't like the song much either.

Archie- Good, but not great for me. (Ok, Randy just said "Crazy hot"-hmmm?) I swear I'm not taking off my ears when he sings. I see that he will have a career but I won't be buying the album. (Ooh, that dates me, doesn't it?)

Brooke- Not her best performance either, but still ok. She'll get by on song choice I think. She's worried that it will be her last, you can tell.

Best of night- JASON BY A MILE, and I'm not just saying that because he's my fave.

Since they don't kick anyone off this week I'm not going to hurt myself by finding someone to choose as my least fave.

As far as inspiration goes, I found little in tonights' show. It's either me being sick, or it really wasn't up to par. I can't wait to find out what you all think. Leave me a little love in the comments, then go check out BooMama and see what a whole bunch of other people think!

The wedding: The Overview

Well, we're alive and have survived the wedding weekend. We all had a lovely time (in general) and I wanted to give you an overview of the events so when I come back to them you"ll know what I'm talking about. There are some funny (to me?) stories, but those must come later as I am drowning in laundry and must.get.it.done.

Wed.: The Headless Grandparents came into town for the festivities; I was still sick. Cooked dinner and watched American Idol. (Boring again-Girls Beware!-You're all going to be gone if you don't step up your game!!)

Thurs: Take kids to school. HG-ma and I meet others from the wedding party at the spa. I work in HB2's K class. Take Headless Dad's shoes to be reheeled/shined. Pick up kids. HG, HG-ma, and I go to church to help set up at 4-no one else is there! We wait, do a few things, others show (late) and we finally get started with the rehearsal (late). We get to Buca di Peppo for the dinner portion on the evening and ordering turns into a BIG ORDEAL (probably because we are all hungry! And my kids have school on Friday! And it's starting to get late!) [Wait! There seems to be a pattern here...I should have noticed earlier...] Finally get the boys home and in bed about a half hour late, not too bad for the lateness of everything!

Fri.: Take kids to school. Go to Baseball Banner Guy's house to get additions made. Go to Macy's for wedding present (for HG-ma). Go get HD's shoes. Call and ask if they need help decorating for the reception, (No! the room isn't too big and I have lots of help! {foreshadowing, if you needed the hint}). Get kids at school. Feed kids. Shower kids. Dress kids. Shower and dress myself! Be ready to go to church by 4:30. Get a call that the group isn't back from decoration the reception place yet (? 4 1/2 hours later? wtf?) Tell everyone to chill for 10 or 15 min. Go to church. Realize we are only the 2nd group there. Let the boys run around the sanctuary, cause we're classy like that (well, it was our own church, after all.) Get bride and boys dressed. Start wedding. End wedding. Wait. Try to start pictures. Wait. Start pictures. End pictures. Get to reception. Find that there are no seats for my family (part of the wedding party!) Wait. Finally find 5 seats together for HGPs, HBs, and myself. Sit. Wait. Sit. Order food. Wait, wait, wait. HB2 falls asleep in my lap. We finally make a mad dash for the car at 10:20, without being served dinner, (much less see any of the cakey, garter-throwing stuff.) Feed boys Dino-nuggets for the second time today, give them some Girl Scout cookies, and throw them in bed. Fall over.

Sat.: HD stays in bed because he thinks he has strep. I take HB2 for baseball pics. Come home. I take HB1 for baseball pics. Come home. [During all of this HG is getting the house ready for her Bible study group at noon.] Take HBs and HGPs to BIL and new SIL's house for a brunch. See all remodeling. Realize there is no food of note left. Gather the troops, come home to have food. Return tux stuff. HD is still in bed but says 'Hey! Lets cook.' I go to the grocery store. We cook dinner. HG leaves for the state finals of girls' basketball. We throw the boys in bed, then collapse.

Sun.: HD finally goes to the doctor and has a RAGING case of tonsilitis. Gets drugs. Sleeps while HG-ma and I exchange the mirror (remember my bathroom remodel? Neither do I.) and get to go to DSW (oh heavenly day!!!). Go out to dinner because no one can think straight. Throw boys in bed. Fall asleep twice before I'm able to actually get to my bed.

SO! Now you know. Don't you just love family events? Thanks goodness for the HGPs or I would never have survived all of this.

Still!

Yes, I STILL have the flu. I'm at the point that I am so over this, but can't get over it. Crazy! Same symptoms as always, it just WON'T GO AWAY! On the plus side, I think I've lost about 5-10 lb., although I can't really be sure because the battery in my NEW scale is dead. Perfect.

In AI news-The 2 front runners are now the guy who sang 'Papa was a rollin' stone' and 'Imagine." Wasn't crazy about the rest, but really when you're in bed with the fever/shivers how can you really tell?

The Headless Grandparents are here for the wedding on Friday night. It is so good to have your mom and dad around when you're sick!

If there are no more posts after this it must be because I've died. You don't have to send flowers.

And About the Girls...

Funny. The girls on American Idol are all good, but none really stuck out for me last night. Could've been the material, but they were all pretty much just OK. HD said that the blonde girls were probably the ones that he didn't like as much and I guess I agree. I suppose we'll have to wait until next week to see who I like...

All that build up for that? Sorry, I'm just not inspired.

And HB1? Blue and Gold was great-He got a ton of new patches and awards And his first, very own pocket knife. Life is good, my friends, for an 8 year old boy.

*Knock, Knock* Is Anyone there?

Yes, I'm still here, more or less. The Great Sickness of 2008 really got me-I haven't been sick in about 3 years and now I remember why. Being sick sucks. Big time! As a status report HD and I are mostly over it (just a lingering cough,) and HB2 has it and is starting his 2nd round of antibiotics today. Like my mom always used to say, "I don't have time" and it usually works. Not this time however.

Onward and upward.

Life went on at the Headless household-baseball practice is fully underway, and Headless Girl is cheering her heart out for the girls basketball team in the playoffs. The laundry piled up big time-I had to get that under control before I could even post, it was that bad. We missed a family party last weekend because of the crud-I'm sure it went well but I hate to miss that stuff!

For those of you that pray, would you please send up a word on behalf of my Aunt? She was admitted into the hospital last night with a small intestinal blockage; they don't know yet if they'll need to operate. Headless Grandmother went to be with her, and that's about all we know so far. Thanks for helping me to fill His inbox!

Have you been keeping up with American Idol? Well, the top 12 boys look pretty good, except for the few that don't. Mostly the ones lacking testosterone are the ones that need to go IMO. Not because of their lack of testosterone, but because of their lack of, um, say TALENT? My faves are Rocker guy from Florida, Dread-lock guy from Texas, and Hot guy from Australia by way of Atlanta. I'll let you know the status of the gals after tonight.

Speaking of tonight, HB1 has Blue and Gold starting at 6 so I've gotta hustle to get these kids out the door. Thanks for staying with me internet pals and forgiving the interuption!

A few things...Mostly just some randomness and loose ends...

(I really don't have time to write today-the shower (bridal) is looming and Christmas still beckons from the living room. But I'm really, really good at procrastinating. Can't you tell?)

I did love the beginning of AI last night. Mostly because it kept Headless Dad up past his usual 7:00 snore-fest. He loves the first weeks of AI-he isn't mean in the slightest, but I guess being a voyeur to the awfulness that is the Open Auditions is an outlet for any mean-ness that might sneak through. I have a few favorites already, but Hollywood week is the true test. The stress separates the kids from the adults, so to speak.

The Headless Grandparents are coming in tomorrow. They are very cool, very fun (and helpful!) to have around. I'll have to introduce you to them later. You'll then understand how I became headless. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, really.

Tonight is the Pinewood Derby Race at scouts. Have any of you participated before? This is our first time, and I really hope HB1 does ok. If nothing he'll probably have the coolest looking car there. HD has been obsessed with the sanding, the sanding, the sanding...you get the idea.

Oh! I have an internet-y question for you: Do you have a good site for tv/flat screen/brand reviews? We have been talking about taking the plunge and I told HD I would see what I could find. Your own reviews would be great, too. He/we have been looking but are still clueless. Help!

I had a really good time with my Bible study girls last night. We met at the book store to decide on a directed study-A Women of Faith study on 'Finding Joy'. Perfect for me, I might add, remember? Then we went to get coffee and I found something that could ruin my weight loss if I lived closer. Decaf CREME BRULE, people. Amazing. One as a treat is ok-but I really have to stay away from that neighborhood or my butt may become a huge CREME BRULE.

I really need to get more done on the bathroom I'm remodeling. Like put up a mirror before the shower on Sat.? I also have the medicine cabinet to install, need to caulk the side and back splashes, seal the doors and drawers of the cabinet so they can be installed. It's just little stuff, but with Christmas in the living room, who can focus?

It's TV Tuesday!

Does anyone in America NOT follow American Idol to some degree? I know, some don't jump in until the top 12, some even wait for the top 6. But really, does anyone NOT follow it somewhat, at all? It is quite the family thing around the Headless household. Headless Dad likes to hear the awful ones get bashed, the Headless Boys seem to fall in love with someone right from the start, Headless Girl and I just watch, thinking about the future weeks, who will make it, who won't. Don't get me wrong, we're not freaky about it, but we do like this show. Kind of reminds me of the old days of families gathering around the radio for their favorite show-minus the kindness, and with a healthy dose of Simon.
